The Crosspower BTL Program started in it's humble beginnings as a need to assist youth who were not getting any form of education for various reasons. Crosspower Ministries Trust saw that need and birthed the BTL Program.
Today, the Crosspower BTL Program is an alternative education school initiated by Crosspower Ministries Trust, approved by the Ministry of Education (through the AIMHI Consortium) catering for youth aged from 13-16yrs in South Auckland. It specifically targets students in Otara, but has catered for students living in neighbouring suburbs such as Papatoetoe and Otahuhu.
What is the BTL Program? There are various components offered and they range from academic learning to those addressing student's 'real life issues'. Below are some examples of the BTL program components offered:
1. Academic: Literacy, Mathematics, etc.
2. Basic Computer Skills Development
3. Performing arts: music, dance, drama
4. Fitness Program
5. Art and Home Economics Program
6. Drug & Alcohol - through Attitude and Drug Arm
7. Sexual Health - through Adolescent Youth Health
8. Educational fieldtrips: Mai FM, Career Expo, Tiptop, NZ Herald visits
9. Biblical Inspiration
10. Learners License (for students aged 15 and over)
11. "The Shed" Program
12. Indoor Recreation : Basketball, Unihoc, Soccer, etc.
13. Outdoor Programs: Caving, Abseiling, Trekking, Cycling, etc.
14. Camping
15. Interschool Sports Competitions
The program also aims to build and develop student's self-esteem and life-skills.
